Sterling and Six was conceptualized in 2015 and officially founded in 2017 by Jack Garrity. Taking inspiration from the force by which gravity compels interactions in our universe, Sterling and Six follows these same forces to pursue bold style and sustainable methods. With its beginning in Brooklyn, NY, Sterling and Six pushes the standards of material sourcing, relying on relationships made throughout the design community in New York and beyond.
Sterling and Six' mission is to make furniture and craft that is not only sustainable for our environment, but inspired by and productive for our environment. Craft has a life span similar to all living things. As wood becomes table or chair, we should consider it a new phase in its life before it returns to the earth like everything else. In order to do that properly, Sterling and Six makes all its furniture with efficient, sustainable materials and methods.
Jack Garrity studied architecture and art at Connecticut College through 2013. He worked in construction in Boston, MA before attending the Career Discovery program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, MA. His experience in design and construction forged his desire to throw himself into the fine detail of furniture craft in the Fall of 2014 and move to Brooklyn, NY. His training has involved working for two of the premier furniture makers in Brooklyn as a woodworker and a finisher.
He believes the best way to learn is by doing.
